Virtualbox is still one of the most easy to use virualisation tools out there and the best part is it is available for free in-spite of the fact that Oracle owns it now. VirtualBox is available for almost all popular Operating Systems and distributions. In this article, we will tell you how to install VirtualBox 4.0 in the newly released Fedora 15 Linux. At the time of writing this article, the version of VirtualBox available was VirtualBox 4.0.8.

Step 1: Install Kernel Headers, DKMS and GNU C Compiler. You can skip this step if you already have these packages installed on your Fedora 15 system.

sudo yum install -y kernel-headers kernel-devel dkms gcc
sudo yum -y update

Step 2: In this step we will download and install the VirtualBox package. There are two ways of doing this. Manual Download & Install or Install Directly.

Manual Download & Install

sudo wget http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.8/VirtualBox-4.0-4.0.8_71778_fedora15-1.i686.rpm && sudo rpm -ivh VirtualBox-4.0-4.0.8_71778_fedora15-1.i686.rpm

Direct Install

sudo rpm -Uvh http://download.virtualbox.org/virtualbox/4.0.8/VirtualBox-4.0-4.0.8_71778_fedora15-1.i686.rpm

Step 3: The major part of this tutorial is now over. Now we just need to recompile the Kernel with VirtualBox drivers using this command:

sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup

Step 4: And finally, we just need to add the group vboxusers your current user group and id. You can do it with this command:

sudo usermod -G vboxusers -a YOUR_USERNAME

[OR]

sudo usermod -G vboxusers -a $USER

The installation is now over and you may start using VirtualBox.

Não estava conseguinfo instar o VirtualBox no Fedora 15, até encontrar esse link!

No projeto relampago que estamos fazendo aqui na Woompa eu já usei bastante coisas pra criar botões estilizados... Mas vou salvar esse link aqui pra não perder a referencia!

If you’ve compiled Ruby from source, you might get this error when executing script/console:

1  /usr/local/lib/ruby/1.8/irb/completion.rb:10:in `require': no such file to load -- readline (LoadError)

One way of fixing this is to compile readline, which is distributed along with the Ruby source:

1  cd /opt/src/ruby-1.8.5-p2/ext/readline
   2  ruby extconf.rb
   3  make
   4  sudo make install

This works even after compiling Ruby, so no need to recompile… If you’re wondering what readline is then this quote from the project homepage sums it up in one sentence: “The GNU Readline library provides a set of functions for use by applications that allow users to edit command lines as they are typed in.”

But the topic has enough technical basis to warrant the interest of experienced developers, so here we are.

This post is for those who handle the technical evaluation necessary to hire candidates, especially in the Ruby and Rails scenes, although the overall strategies are language-agnostic (though I'd hope if you're hiring folks to work on missiles and nuclear power plants, all bets are off).

E ai pessoal, salvando mais um link aqui... Depois de instalei o Fedora 15 tive um problema na instalação do Rails... O problema foi a falta da zlib... Nesse link você pode ver como corrigir o problema

Semana passada, mais uma vez, tive a curiosidade e coragem de preparar o ambiente de desenvolvimento Rails no Ubuntu (no meu caso, o 10.04). Após muita pesquisa, acatei o melhor de cada dica e decidi preparar e compartilhar os passos que tomei para ter um ambiente redondo.

Teremos ao final um ambiente com Ruby 1.9.1 + Rails 2.3.8 + RubyGems 1.3.7 + SQLite3/MySQL/PostgreSQL instalados e pronto para desenvolvimento. Vamos lá então!

Bom pessoal, estava eu aqui instalando o Titanium Developer pra dar uma brincada com o mesmo, porém após ele baixar e instalar não abria mais... Não adiantava clicar no icone dele que nada acontecia... Chamando pelo terminal um erro aparecia... E a solução está neste post que compartilho com vocês!
